There are so many options for expanding the Pumpkin Android 8.0 Car Stereo, such as OBD2 and 4G. We have highlighted some below.
You can upgrade your Pumpkin to have AndroidAuto so you can Mirror your phones display and touch input to your car stereo’s display. This native device from Pumpkin gives a seamless integration with your device and is fully plug and play.
Most modern cars since the turn of the century have a diagnostics port that is OBD2 compatible. You can tap into this very useful information by the means of a bluetooth or Wi-Fi dongle. Simply launch torque on your car stereo and read the diagnostics on your car. You can even add gauges such as RPM, BHP, Torque, engine temp and much more using these devices.
Why not add a reversing camera as well? You can wire the trigger so that when you put your car into reverse, the display on your Pumpkin will automatically switch over to the camera input from the rear of your car.
Front DVR Camera
The Pumpkin allows you to record your journey as well, this adds valuable evidence if its required. Giving you complete peace of mind in the event of any accident or incident.
There are so many options for 3G and 4G connectivity for any Android Car Stereo. In the case of the Pumpkin, this is also true. You may find that tethering to your phone is enough for daily use, but it can eat through data if you’re not careful. Having a Pay as you go Sim and hotspot is a must especially if you’re going on long journeys while the kids are watching youtube! We will get a list of recommended 3G and 4G hotspots together and link them here soon.
You can add digital radio to your Pumpkin as well by the use of a DAB receiver. Pumpkin do their own model of this as well. Bringing you CD quality radio with no interruption in broadcast depending on your area. Simply connects via USB into the back of your Android Car stereo and comes with everything you need to get you up and running.
As with most Android car stereos, there is a maximum amount of storage you can use. In the case of the Pumpkin, the maximum is is either 64GB or 128GB on these Pumpkin devices, so its not worth purchasing any SD cards that are larger than this (See comparison above). We will get a list of recommended SD cards together and link them here soon.
Also, as with most Android car stereos, you can expand storage by USB as well. We will get a list of recommended USB sticks together and link them here soon.
You can add additional displays for your rear passengers to enjoy video while you’re on a long journey. The Pumpkin devices offer Video Out in all their devices allowing this feature while not distracting the driver. Supporting 4K displays (3840 x 2160)
The Pumpkin’s fast boot is very impressive, and you’ll really find this really handy if you’re in and out of your car constantly. Sound Quality is not the best on the market, but if you were to pair this device with some aftermarket amplifiers and a sub, it will sound epic. Radio reception is great and shows RDS information perfectly. If you have a great data plan, use apps such as TuneIn, then theres no need to purchase a DAB adapter either.
Bluetooth works perfectly – paired with an iPhone and was able to make and receive calls with no issues whatsoever. Was also able to stream music from Apple Music with no issues either.
When fitting the device, try to be very tidy with your cabling as behind the device can get quite tight on some cars. Especially if you but the optional extras like the DAB adapter for example. Choose carefully where you place your Wireless and GPS receiver aerials, get them as high as you can in your car so that you get a better signal.
If you can afford it, always get an aftermarket car stereo professionally installed. They are very experienced and usually have additional speciality tools available to do such work.
For the price, its hard to beat the Pumpkin Android 8.0 Car Stereo for a fully loaded system such as this. The Pumpkin has massive specs, and would rival some older desktop PC’s. If you want to update your car entertainment – this is surely the way to go. The system specs are probably more than enough for any car audio enthusiast. Great work Pumpkin!
